Intermission

I have been back home now for 5 days and I think that my soul is still somewhere between here and North America. My body clock has been wreaking a terrible revenge upon me since getting back. Waking up at odd times at night, spaced out by day, and now the obligatory cold. I suppose traversing 8 timezones in 2 weeks might do that to you. Back in England, it even snowed this morning. Doom-sayers reckon that the dusting of snow, all 2 mm of it, is likely to destroy any chance I mnight have of getting to London tomorrow morning for my second interview with The Corporation. With all this in the way I'm beginning to think that the job isn't worth it. The Sun newspaper also seems more banal than usual but that might just be because of the Christmas season. What with looking for work and having no money anyway it's going to be a while before I get to go away again. But I'm not sure I really want to do anything like I have done. I very nearly went crazy at one point so I...

Father Holiday

Happy holidays to you too. It's not called Christmas over here. Not even Xmas. I made my phone call in Bangkok and promptly started my trip home to Blighty. I don't know why we call it Blighty, we just do sometimes. The same way that we sometimes get annoyed when people say that our food's crap. Up yours and all. I'm flying home for Xmas so that I can slip slowly into insanity among my family. Well, part of them anyway. It should be fun and to catch up with old friends should be good too as most of them are close together. The second reason I'm flying home is because of a job interview. You can take the boy out of Barclays but not the Barclays out of the boy and after sending through my CV and a half-hearted cover letter about 2 months ago I was contacted by a nice lady in the Singapore office that I visited some 8 months ago. After much ado it turns out that there is a job opportunity there (I get nervous when jobs are described as "opportunities") that w...

Exit Planet Dust

I have never seen as many butterflies as I have seen in Cambodia. In all the bits of the country I visited I saw so many as I walked or cycled around the countryside. All different colours and sizes too; very pretty and made the walks I took a little nicer. I spent my final days in Cambodia cycling around the Angkor Wat temple park. Angkor Wat is but one of many temples in this area, about 250km NW of Phnom Penh, and attracts many visitors and the admiration and pride of all Cambodians. After all it was ancient Cambodians who constructed this marvel over a thousand years ago and it is truly gianourmous. Angkor is the largest religious building in the world and casts an impressive shadow, sitting as it does within its moat and catching the sunsets rather nicely. I am not normally one to gawp at buildings and after 3 quiet days of exploring the park, which is huge, I was suffering from Temple-Fatigue. It's a shame that even in such surroundings one can still get bored with them, but ...
